What is The English Course, Writing Book 1?

It's a lower-intermediate course, mainly for 1st year college or university students

What is in it?

If you are not ready to look at the linked pdf file (above), the following is a brief synopsis of the contents:

• In-depth sections containing guides on such topics as laying out writing, grammatical terms, building good sentences, common mistakes, etcetera.
• Detailed instruction on the writing process, covering topics such as brainstorming, planning, researching, and editing.
• Interesting and relavant topics for writing practice, including such skills areas as reviews, reports, narratives, and letters.

Why is it different?

The English Course, Writing Book 1 comprises a textbook, teacher's DVD, student self-study web site and a web site for teachers.

The teacher's DVD is full of audio and video material to provide stimuli for student writing activities. It also contains interactive multimedia quizzes and tests to task students in a fun way.

The student web site contains at least 7 practice exercises for each unit of the course. All of these exercises are auto-marking (freeing the teacher from a lot of the burden of marking) and giving students the opportunity to engage in extended practice.

Each unit ends with Finale, where students are presented with an audio/visual slideshow or video which is intended to act as a stimulus for writing related to the focus of the unit.
